Local bowlers set to dominate Vic Open finals

The Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley region is set to dominate the final round of the Steller Victorian Open at Shepparton Park Bowls Club with several local bowlers through to the finals.

Suzanne Tyson, Catherine Dudley and Bev Cahill from Shepparton Park Bowls Club will take on Vicki Hudson (Heathmont Bowls Club), Lynda Edwards (Blackburn Bowls Club), Ruth Phillips (Heathmont Bowls Club) in the Women’s Triples Final on Thursday.

Barooga Bowls Club’s Brett Wright and Shepparton Golf’s Brett Gunning and David Daws are set for a showdown with Matt Robertson (Benalla Bowls Club), Mitch Sidebottom (South Bendigo Bowls Club) and Russell Locke (Kyabram Bowls Club).

In the quarter finals of the Mixed Pairs, Under-18 young guns and Victorian Representatives Jarryd Davies (Essendon) and Amity Bickley (Mulgrave CC) won through.

They will join Michael Billing (Doutta Galla) and Dianne McKee (Alphington), Dane McKinnon (Altona) and Tris Doolan (MCC), Wayne Roberts and Robyn Barker (Yarraville-Footscray), Len Callus and Sharon Callus (Altona), Denise Knight (Tweed Heads) and Brandan Hoey (Tugun), Wendy Wilson (Tweed Heads) and David Wells (City Memorial Bowls Club) and Sara Rodger (Melbourne) and James Pearce (Deer Park).

The final eight players left in the Men’s and Women’s Singles draw will be decided tonight, while quarter and semi-finals of the singles will be decided tomorrow afternoon.
