Steller Victorian Open heats up

Perfect conditions greeted bowlers for day two of the 2018 Steller Victorian Open.

Men’s and women’s singles events took place across 19 clubs, with three sectional games and two knockout games contested.

Bowlers have been treated to beautiful playing conditions this week, with excellent running speeds and conditions.


Defending singles champion Mitch Sidebottom (South Bendigo, VIC) had his work cut out for him in Section 76, going 16 Shots Up at Euroa Bowls Club.

Last year’s Vic Medal winner Lee Schraner (Rosny Park, TAS), lined up at Numurkah Golf and Bowls Club in section four going 24 Shots Up after the second day.

Also featured at Numurkah, was former Jackaroo Matthew Flapper (Barwon Heads, VIC) who continued his winning form in Section 28, going 21 Shots Up.


In what’s shaping up to be a tough contest in the women’s section, Courtney Gabb (St Kilda, VIC) ended her day with 18 Shots Up at Tatura.

Gayle Edwards (Altona, VIC) made it through to the last 32 after winning the second-round knockout against Kerry Leask (Benalla, VIC) going 33 Shots Up.

Day three will commence at 8:30am tomorrow with pairs events to be contested. Three sectional games and two knockout games are scheduled with all 20 clubs in use.
