The 2018 Steller Victorian Open kicked off today across 20 Bowls Clubs in Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley region.
Official proceedings were opened by the Mayor of Shepparton Cr Kim O’Keeffe, together with delegates from Shepparton City Council, Bowls Victoria, Shepparton Park Bowls Club and the Goulburn Valley Bowls Division.
Since its inception in 2011, the Steller Victorian Open has become a popular playing destination for both professional and grassroots bowlers and the event continues to go from strength to strength.
“To see how far the event has come over the past several years is simply remarkable. This year, the number of clubs has been extended due to the increased demand for playing spots,” said Graeme Bridge, Bowls Victoria Chief Executive.
“We’re using Clubs throughout the Goulburn Valley Bowls Division, the Campaspe Valley Bowls Division, the Murray Bowls Division and Ovens and Murray Bowls Region, so we’ve gone far and wide with this year’s event”
“Once again, all clubs have made their facilities available to Bowls Victoria to assist with hosting the Steller Victorian Open and for this we are very grateful,” he added.
This year, the event has seen 1886 entries which equates to 3,442 bowlers bowling in the sectional play over the first four days of competition.
The event provides a unique opportunity for every level of bowler to challenge themselves and their fellow competitors in a professional environment.
